The Libra Project
Libra is the national case management system used by Magistrates' courts in England and Wales.
Main aims
Operating within the Ministry of Justice's IT infrastructure, the Libra case management system has established a modern platform for future modernisation of Criminal Justice IT. Libra interfaces to the DVLA, police, CPS, probation service, TV licensing and national banking partners, further improving "joined-up" Criminal Justice.
Main benefits
Libra case management provides the following:
- A standard case management system across every Magistrates' court in England and Wales
- An improved quality of service for court users, through a single managed IT service
- Better information flows between Magistrates' courts and other criminal justice agencies
- Standard court reporting from all sites
STL Technologies and Libra
STL Technologies was awarded the design, development, migration and training of the Libra case management contract in 2003. National roll-out commenced in Dec 2005, including the courts that had been using STL's legacy case management system, Equis. National roll-out across every 300 magistrate court areas was completed in December 2008.
