STL Technologies recognises police gallantry sponsors GMP Bravery Award 2011November 2011Greater Manchester Police (GMP) will be acknowledging the outstanding work undertaken by members of the force during the disorder in Manchester and Salford on 9th August 2011. Over 500 police officers will be recognised during a special award ceremony, on Tuesday 15th November, being sponsored by STL Technologies, the UK’s leading police software developer. The police officers on duty on 9th August faced unprecedented levels of violence, particularly in Salford, and many worked shifts lasting as long as 22 hours. David Henthorne, Inspector, Neighbourhood Police Team in Salford said: "In Salford, Pendleton was very hard hit during the disorder. We had 12 buildings on fire, 48 officers injured and 43 shop burglaries in just one small shopping precinct. Virtually every shop was affected that night. Immediately after the disorder our focus was to reassure the community and return to normality as quickly as possible. Working with our local partners we succeeded and by 10am on 10th August, apart from the damaged buildings, you wouldn’t have known what had happened the night before." Peter Fahy, Chief Constable GMP commented: "We are extremely proud of all of our officers who demonstrated extraordinary bravery and acted above and beyond the call of duty to help regain order on the streets of Manchester." The ceremony is being held at The Point, the prestigious conference centre at Lancashire Country Cricket Club in Old Trafford. Certificates of commendation will be presented by Chief Constable Fahy to all officers working on the frontline as well as some Manchester fire-fighters on duty at that time. Team awards will also be given to neighbourhood policing teams for their contribution on the day and the continued support given to their communities following the disorder. Richard Perkins, Sales & Marketing Director, STL Technologies added: "STL Technologies is delighted to sponsor this awards ceremony which highlights the exceptional courage and resolve displayed by so many GMP officers. STL Technologies has been working in partnership with GMP since 1999, creating effective solutions for case, custody and neighbourhood policing that efficiently help the force serve the public better." GMP has implemented STL Technologies’ ICIS custody and case management system, including its two-way interface with the CPS, and its drink drive procedural management software. STL Technologies' other criminal justice software solutions include case management solutions for UK courts which support over 35,000 users. |
