Working at STL

Jo Croft - Programme ManagerJo Croft

I joined STL Technologies in 1996 from a large Magistrates’ Courts Consortium where I was IT manager responsible for transitioning Case Management services and application support to STL. The business and training opportunities afforded to me by STL have seen my career progress from Business Analyst to Project Manager and now Programme Manager. I have worked on a number of different projects, both private and public sector, building and maintaining strong working relations with all my customers. As a result these projects were successfully delivered and rolled out on time to the customer’s satisfaction.

I enjoy working for STL because of our partnership approach when working with customers. This helps me understand their objectives and build an in-depth knowledge of their business processes. I like our flexibility to adopt a pragmatic approach to project delivery to suit individual customer’s needs.

Andy Bluett - Senior DeveloperAndy Bluett

My first job after graduating from college in 1995 was as a software developer with Supported Computer Systems (SCS).

When SCS was acquired by STL, I became involved in projects developing our highly successful In-Court and Court Diary software. These systems were the precursors to our Libra court case management application which now supports the Magistrates’ Courts in England and Wales.

I enjoy the day-to-day variety and challenges presented to me that allow me to further my technical knowledge and expertise. I also enjoy working within a small friendly, supportive and knowledgeable team. At STL I consider myself fortunate to be able to provide assistance and build excellent relationships with our customers.

Gary Hawkes - Test AnalystGary Hawkes

I’ve been working in software development since 1995 and joined STL in 2008 to get more hands-on experience of test automation.

At STL I have been empowered to propose and implement best practice in a number of areas. For example, improvements to regression and automated testing processes were made from research and recommendations I made. STL has also encouraged me to take ownership of my work and its outcome which I find a thoroughly rewarding experience; it's very satisfying to know I’ve made a difference.

There are always opportunities for everyone at STL, either to move onto different projects or to learn new skills and technologies. STL ensure I receive the appropriate training and certification and thanks to their support I am now an ISEB Foundation certified tester with plans achieve a higher level of certification.

Gilbert Hunter - Trainer / Technical AuthorGilbert Hunter

I joined STL Technologies as a trainer in 2004 on a one year temporary contract and I’m still here over seven years later. Working for STL has provided me with opportunities to work on a wide range of projects and broaden my skills. In 2007 when I began a new role as a technical author, STL ensured I received the training to equip me for the role.

One of the best things about working for STL is that although we work in small project-focused teams, flexible resourcing means we can join other teams learning new skills and sharing our experience. I also enjoy the flexible approach to projects letting us focus on doing the best possible job and delighting our customers.

The flexible approach extends to more than projects; by allowing me to work from home, I see more of my children and have time to take them to school.

STL is a very generous company, donating to local charities and organising social events for families. The annual employee Christmas gifts are very popular!

Garry Chambers - Senior DeveloperGarry Chambers

I started at STL as a support technician in 1996 supporting various applications. After 2 years I moved into development where I have been involved in many projects for our criminal justice clients.

I now have over 10 years professional experience of IT development and the Magistrates' Courts business.

There are always opportunities for everyone at STL, either to move onto different projects or to learn new skills and technologies. I am currently a senior developer working primarily as an Oracle developer on the Libra project.

Tracey Bantoft - Project Support AnalystTracey Bantoft

I joined STL in March 2004 as a standing data administrator, since then I have had the opportunity to use my Business Analysis skills with a secondment into the Test team.

My current job is quite varied and involves supporting project managers, liaison for different contracts to progress work and ensuring the team achieves the client's objectives.

Outside of work I am learning to play golf and enjoy making handcrafted greetings cards.
