Sound Techniques

Sound Techniques Ltd (STL) was founded in Chelsea by Geoff Frost in 1964 as an independent professional music recording studio, working with artists such as The Who, Elton John and Pink Floyd. To reduce costs, Geoff designed and built his own equipment. This sideline was so successful that we moved to bigger premises at Mildenhall, Suffolk beginning the connection with East Anglia which remains to this day.

Software, a new direction

We entered the nascent software market in the early 70s, continuing our commitment to excellence underpinned by a flexible approach. Our first software product was a stock control system which was followed in 1976 by PAMS (Police and Magistrates System), the first full Court case management administration system covering all pre- and post-Court activity. PAMS was replaced by Equis which, by 1997, accounted for a market share of circa 40% of the Magistrates' Courts user-base in England.

In 2003, our expertise in the Criminal Justice sector helped us win a contract to replace the four legacy systems in use in Magistrates Courts. Libra is now used by all Magistrates' Courts and administrative centres in England and Wales.

We've expanded our software portfolio with the development and support of a variety of case, custody and administration systems used by major police forces and further courts and tribunals services.

The future

We're constantly looking at new ideas and innovations to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Our latest developments include:

“Enjoy what you do, do it well and you’ll make money".
Geoff Frost, Chairman and founder of STL
